Chemical Engineering – Senior Design I This segment of the course is intended to provide the ground for the synthesis of all chemical engineering science and engineering, aiming at the systematic formulation, analysis, and solution of chemical process design related problems. As such, it will provide information in theoretical knowledge, which pertains to:
Lecture/Recitations: Monday, Wednesday
and Friday, as follows:
Instructor:
Prof. Andreas A. Linninger
Teaching Assistant: Kartik
Venkataraman,
Prerequisites: Che 312, 313, Che 321 Board of Industrial Advisors and Invited Student Coaches:
Professor Linninger and teaching assistant will act as the students' engineering advisors, to provide information, references, critiques and general guidance in pursuing the educational goals set for this course. Student teams should consult with their advisors as to the times they can meet outside the classroom to discuss various problems, progress of design cases studies, clarifications, and to seek information, references, etc. Industrial coaches enhance the classwork through their participation
in one-day workshops events. Students will attend key seminar presentation
on select topics in process design. Special time will be allocated for
students’ discussions of process design problems in its industrial perspective.
Students are encouraged to explore possible directions of their personal
professional future with their industrial advisors.
Grading: The final grade on the first segment of this course will be based on:
During the period of August 23 – December 3, 1999, students in groups of four will carry out a process design project. The purpose of the project is to provide the students with the opportunity to exercise their decision-making skills as well as to implement basic tools and methodologies in the design of an integrated chemical process.
