CHE 341-PROCESS CONTROL

SPRING 2000

  Laboratory-10 ( Tutorial )

DYNAMICS OF A PROPYLENE GLYCOL REACTOR

Developed by Jyothsna Gunamgari (April 18th, 2002)

PROCESS

In this tutorial, a CSTR with two feeds is modeled. Feed 1 consists of Propylene Oxide and Feed 2 consists of
water. The reactor produces Propylene Glycol at preferred conditions.<Download>

CONTROLLERS

There are four controllers in our system.

  •     Flow Controller for propylene oxide feed.
  •     Flow Controller for water feed.
  •     Temperature Controller for reactor.
  •     Level Controller to control the liquid level in the reactor.

The objective of the experiment is to perform and understand the various controls involved in the experiment.

    RECOMMENDED EXERCISES

Repeat the experiment by changing  the set points and observing the response.
